About La Mar
La Mar is a historic family home situated in the fishing village of A Guarda, at the mouth of the Miño river, in the south of the province of Pontevedra. Our accommodation guarantees a comfortable stay in a special house that preserves the Galician tradition.
The murmur of the Atlantic, the fresh sea breeze create a unique atmosphere for those who wish to disconnect and enjoy the essence of maritime life and the scenic richness of this enclave in the Rías Baixas.
Every room and corner of La Mar has been decorated with care, preserving the original stone and wood as witnesses to the history of the house, while modern details have been incorporated to ensure your comfort.
If you are looking for a place to reconnect with the sea, nature, tradition and local gastronomy, La Mar is the ideal starting point.
The rooms
The stone house, with a wooden roof and terracotta and timber floors, preserves the original structure of its construction. The layout of the rooms has respected the divisions of the traditional Galician dwelling, adapting them to the present day with improvements to ensure comfortable accommodation without altering its essence.
Bedrooms
The original bedroom is a windowed alcove with a double bed, integrated into the living room and separated from it by curtains.
The second bedroom is independent, with two beds and a wardrobe in fine wood. This bedroom has an en-suite bathroom.
Living room
It is one of the most charming parts of the house, with high ceilings and a wooden roof.
It preserves the traditional layout of a single space with the hearth and the sleeping area (the alcove).
It features a lareira into which a cast iron fireplace has been integrated so you can enjoy the fire safely.
Bathrooms
The house has two newly renovated full bathrooms.
It also has a guest toilet within the main original area.
Kitchen
A space with direct access to the garden and all the appliances and kitchen utensils needed for a comfortable stay.
The garden
A large garden of over 1500 m² surrounds the entire house, creating a well-kept and pleasant space, with mature vegetation of large trees, hydrangeas, lemon trees, bougainvilleas and a small pergola under which to sit and read quietly to the lull of the sea in the background.
The entire property is enclosed by stone walls that provide security and great privacy.
The views
The western part of the house looks out towards the Atlantic Ocean and from all the windows you can see the sea and the silhouette of Monte Tecla. A large terrace allows you to enjoy these wonderful views during the day and the stars at night, as it is an area with little light pollution.
The rest of the orientations face the garden and from the main porch, facing east, you can make out Monte Terroso.

The surroundings
Thanks to its privileged location, many different activities can be enjoyed within a radius of less than 50 km, the distance that separates it from the city of Vigo and its airport.
Cultural visits, walks in the mountains or along the seashore, outdoor sports activities, enjoying the local gastronomy and the wines of the neighbouring Valle de O Rosal, from the D.O. Rías Baixas, visiting its wineries, exploring the cities and markets of Portugal, birdwatching at the mouth of the Miño, taking a boat trip along the Vigo estuary towards the Cíes Islands, discovering traditional festivals...
As you can see, the possibilities are almost endless and very varied, allowing you to choose those that best suit your tastes.
A Guarda, a fishing village
It is a picturesque coastal town located in the far southwest of Galicia. Famous for its fishing tradition and its lively harbour, it is an unmissable destination for lovers of the sea and fine dining.
Monte Santa Trega
At its summit lie the remains of an ancient hilltop fort and a small archaeological museum, as well as viewpoints with spectacular views of the Atlantic and the Miño river estuary.
O Rosal and its wines
The O Rosal region is known for its two white wine specialities: Albariño and Rosal. Its impressive vineyards and various wine routes through some of the many local wineries are ideal for wine tourism enthusiasts.
Portugal just a step away
A Guarda is located right on the border with Portugal. In just a few minutes you can cross the Miño river and explore the charming Portuguese villages and their famous markets.
Mills of O Folón and O Picón
An ethnographic complex with more than 60 centuries-old mills arranged in a cascade down the mountain slope. Nature and history come together in an unforgettable route.
Local gastronomy
Gastronomy is one of the great attractions of A Guarda.
Seafood products are the stars of its cuisine, with specialities such as lobster, spider crab, barnacles, octopus and a great variety of fish and shellfish.
The Cíes Islands
Both from Baiona and from Vigo you can board a boat to the archipelago of the Cíes Islands, a paradisiacal place belonging to the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park.
Sports activities
A Guarda is an ideal place for lovers of hiking. The Miño river offers a unique opportunity to practise kayaking while enjoying the natural beauty of the area from the water. It is also perfect for cycling and other outdoor sports and activities.
Birdwatching
The Miño estuary is a natural space of 1,688 ha. that was declared in 2006 a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA). It is located between the SW of Galicia and the NW of Portugal. It is considered one of the most important wetlands on the Iberian Peninsula, at the confluence of two ecosystems, the fluvial and the maritime.
Particularly notable in this space is the presence of the Aquatic Warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola), classified as "vulnerable" at a global scale and "endangered" at a European scale.
